The tool — try it now
Two synthetic tracks run through real 3-band EQs, and a script works the faders for you — bar by bar, with a line beside it saying what is happening right now. You hear the bass clash before you build one yourself, and the clean bass swap right after it.
What you learn with it
The difference between a rule and a sound. “Never two basses at once” is a sentence you forget in two minutes; the rumble of two open LOW bands you do not forget. The same goes for the gallop of two unmatched kicks and for the friction between two keys from opposite ends of the Camelot wheel.
How to use the tool
Put headphones on — laptop speakers miss exactly the range this is about
Start at demo 01: hear the mistake first, then the fix in demo 02
Watch the line under the decks — it says in real time what is being changed
Run demo 04 twice: once listening for the gallop, once for the merge
Then rebuild it on your own gear — the lab does not replace practice, it makes practice audible
Listen to 01 and 02 back to back. The learning is not in either demo but in the difference between them, and that difference disappears if an hour sits in between.
Common mistakes
Listening to demo 02 only. A clean bass swap sounds unremarkable until you have the clash from demo 01 in your ears — the learning is in the comparison.
Judging on laptop speakers. What sounds like “no difference” there is the whole point on headphones.
Treating the lab as practice. It trains the ear, not the hand; without rebuilding it on your own gear it stays a spectator sport.

Take the time in one go — hearing and timing develop through repetition, not through reading.
You have it when you recognise the bass clash in demo 01 by ear without looking at the labels — and when you notice in demo 04 which bar the two kicks lock in on.
Questions about this tool
Why are there no real tracks in here?
Because a real track is a licensing question and a download. Everything you hear is generated in the browser at the moment you press play — kick, bass, chords, hi-hats. It costs nothing, loads nothing, and sounds deliberately plain: this is about the difference between two states, not about music to enjoy.
Do I really need headphones?
For the bass demos, yes. Laptop and phone speakers barely reproduce anything below about 150 Hz, and that is exactly where a bass clash happens — you would see the labels change and hear almost nothing. The EQ and beatmatching demos work without them.
Can I learn beatmatching with this?
Recognise it, yes. Do it, no. The lab shows you what it sounds like when two kicks drift apart and what it sounds like when they lock in — that is half the work, and it is the half you cannot get from text. The other half is your hand on the tempo fader, and you practise that on the gear.
I press play and hear nothing.
Check your device's mute switch first — on an iPhone the side switch that also silences video. If there is still nothing, your browser cannot play sound here; the lab says so itself in that case. The explanation under each demo is there either way.
