Detailed explanation
CDJ stands for CD player for DJs — modern CDJs play music from USB sticks and SD cards. According to the manual, the CDJ-3000 reads the rekordbox library straight off the storage device and shows the cue, loop and hot cue points in the waveform that rekordbox set while analysing. The preparation you do at your computer travels with the stick. In our view, anyone who knows the concepts from a controller will find their way around — the buttons have different names, the jobs are the same.

In practice
There is no controller in the club, there are two players with a mixer between them. You put your stick in the left player, hit link, and the right one sees the same library. From there you work with a display, a search wheel and cue buttons instead of software on a laptop. Anyone doing that for the first time in a club loses time searching — which is why many people practise the handling once, calmly, before they depend on it.
