Loop Trainer

In on the one, out on the one

A four-bar phrase is running — kick, hi-hat and a bass figure with a different root note in every bar. That is exactly how you hear where in the phrase you are. Set a loop over 4, 8 or 16 beats and release it again: both only count when they happen on a downbeat. No hardware, no music files.

What you learn with it

The move that decides every loop in a set: a loop that starts on the one and ends on the one is inaudible — the track carries on as if nothing had happened. Enter anywhere and leave anywhere and you shift the phrase, and the rest of the transition sits crooked.

How to use the tool

1.

Start the phrase — four bars run in a circle, the display shows bar and beat

2.

Listen once until you can tell the four bass notes apart

3.

Set a loop over 8 beats — exactly on a downbeat, not in between

4.

Let it run a few rounds, then release it on a downbeat

5.

Three rounds where BOTH land and the move is yours

Pro tip

Count before you press: one, two, three, four. Whoever starts counting when they press is always late — the move belongs on the beat, not behind it.

The tool — try it now

Recommended practice time

15–30 minutes

Take the time in one go — hearing and timing develop through repetition, not through reading.
