What happens when a file is encoded

Which bit rate is enough in a club
For purchased files the question barely arises: the stores deliver full resolution, and a 320 kbps MP3 from a clean source is practically indistinguishable from the lossless version on a club system. Streaming is different — Beatport states the quality tiers used by its streaming service openly, and those naturally sit below what a purchase delivers. If you stream, know which tier you are playing at.
The point where it becomes audible sits lower than the argument suggests — and it depends on the material. On dense, bright productions with a lot of cymbals a low bit rate shows first: hi-hats sound glassy, the space around the vocal goes flat. With bass-heavy music it takes longer. On a big system you hear both earlier than on headphones, because the highs have more room there.

Buy from stores that name the source

Decide on ONE format
