DDJ-FLX2
Entry-level DJ controller by AlphaTheta.
Detailed explanation
The DDJ-FLX2 is a 2-deck USB controller from AlphaTheta — the company behind the Pioneer DJ brand — built specifically for beginners. It has two jog wheels, a 2-channel mixer with EQ and a CFX control, four performance pads per deck for hot cues and loops, and a built-in audio interface. With an FLX2 connected, rekordbox can be used in performance mode without a subscription (hardware unlock). On a PC or Mac it runs bus-powered over USB-C; for use with a phone or tablet it has a separate connector for a USB power adapter. The ideal first piece of equipment for a beginner.

As of January 2026. Evidence for the hardware unlock of the DDJ-FLX2, not for the full feature set of the paid plans.
In practice
An entry-level controller is the cheapest way to find out whether DJing is actually for you. Two decks, a mixer section, pads, a headphone output — nobody needs more for the first few months. What it does not replace is experience on club hardware. Which is why it pays to practise from day one the way you will play later — matching tempo by hand instead of using sync, monitoring on headphones instead of on the waveform.
