Someone else's player in the club

Six decisions at a club setup: player 1 is running and sits on the master, next to it a free player waits for your track. Fader, stick, loading, tempo, cueing, mixing in — every decision in the order it actually comes up in the booth. With every wrong pick you read what the room would have heard at that exact moment.

What you learn with it

The sequence on unfamiliar gear — and the one rule that carries it: whatever you touch has to be silent first. That is exactly where the club differs from the controller at home. There, music is playing next to you while you work, and a wrong move is not something you undo but something everybody hears.

How to use the tool

1.

“Into the booth” — player 1 is running, the player next to it is free

2.

At every step, pick the action that comes next

3.

On a wrong pick, read the consequence: it says what the room would have heard

4.

Carry on until your channel fader is up

5.

“Again” reshuffles the answers — the sequence stays the same

Pro tip

The sequence works both ways. When you hand over, pull your stick only once no deck is still reading from it — and whoever follows you finds your tempo fader exactly where you leave it. Think of both and you count as easy to work with in the booth, and that is what brings the second gig.

Recommended practice time

15–30 minutes

Take the time in one go — hearing and timing develop through repetition, not through reading.
